There! As promised, my first blog post
(Well, not really. If your here on my blog site you'll see this
thing started many years ago, and really never got off the ground,
but sorry, I digress.) Yes, I know, I said I'd have magickal recipes
and stuff. This is going to be part of the 'stuff', because before
you can do any magickal cooking or baking, you really do need to know
even a little of the 'stuff'.
Of course, this site won't be just
about magickal food and recipes. While I do lean heavily to the
Kitchen Witchery path, there are other aspects that catch my interest
– Herbalism (and really, a good cook needs to know about herbs),
Crystals (hubby really loves is citrine bracelet, I haven't seen him without since I made it for him),
Candle Magic (taught hubby how to make the candles dance, really, he's better at it then I am),
and much more. We may look a little at Voodoo, Hoodoo, Bruja, delve into the pantheons, and from time to time, since we have these equinoxes and sabats, we'll discuss Samhain, Lammas, Ostara.

But, for the most part, Food! (Ya
know, 'cause, that whole Kitchen Witch thing . . . ).
Last week I posted a link on Facebook
to an article from the site Mookychick about getting started as in
kitchen witchery. Some useful tools and suggestions, and a short list
of basic ingredients to get you started. I'm about to add a couple
more items, ingredients, that I've found very useful.
Honey
Honey, that wonderful elixir! Medicinally it can help treat cold and flu symptoms, ease a sore throat and apparently hangovers (I never knew!). Its antibacterial properties make it a great addition to ointments for sores and burns, and it makes a great facial scrub (Blog idea!). Magickally it can be used to symbolize sticking things together, binding spells or creating stability. Use it in a spell when you need to 'sweeten' someone or something. It's especially good in attraction, love or sex spells (oo la la!).
Onion
Yes, I said onion. Actually, onions have some wonderful magickal properties. Magickal uses include prosperity, stability, endurance, protection, banishing negative influences, ending bad habits, and removing illness. Protection, Exorcism, Healing, Money, Prophetic Dreams and Lust are associated with the onion. Onion is considered a love food and is said to increase male virility.
Butter may be a simple magickal ingredient but in my opinion a very important one. Aside from enhancing the flavour of a dish, it adds a soothing and smoothing to energies and relationships. It increases tenacity and has the ability to make change easier. If your in a bit of a rush, it makes for great grab and go spells. Just mix in the appropriate herbs or spices, spread on a roll and chow down.
Salt
The indispensable tool. An essential part of a witch's arsenal, whatever your path. With it protection and prosperity properties, salt can be added as an enhancement to dishes prepared for those purposes. Absorbing negative energy, protecting your sacred space, or just scrubbing your pots and pans (yes, it make s good 'cleaning scrub' magickally and mundanely), all from that tiny little grain.
As you work in the kitchen, putting
your own magick touch in your dishes, you will discover those
ingredients that you like to work with and get the most 'effect'
from.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I have a dinner party to plan and back ribs to dry rub marinade.
Toodles!
